Sites Selected to Participate in the Dennis M. Mondoro Probation and Juvenile Justice System Enhancement Project

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

We are pleased to announce that Dutchess County, New York; Greene County, Missouri; and King County, Washington have been selected as the three jurisdictions (“Cohort 2”) to receive training and technical assistance as part of the Second Chance Act award made to the Robert F. Kennedy National Resource Center for Juvenile Justice and our grant partners.

The Dennis M. Mondoro Probation and Juvenile Justice System Enhancement Project, named after our late OJJDP colleague to honor his living spirit, has been working with Clark County, Nevada; Fairfax County, Virginia; and Lancaster County, Nebraska during fiscal year 2019 as part of “Cohort 1” to support the conduct of a Probation System Review that is guided by the Probation System Review Guidebook, 3rd Edition (Tuell and Harp, 2019). We will continue our work with Cohort 1 to support its ongoing implementation, sustainability, and performance measurement of prioritized probation and juvenile justice system transformation practices. Our technical assistance partners in this project (and their focus of attention listed parenthetically) include:

  • Keith Cruise, PhD (screening and assessment for trauma)
  • National Juvenile Defender Center (probation order analysis)
  • National Center for Juvenile Justice (data capacity assessment)
  • University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill Impact Center (implementation science)

The RFK National Resource Center works closely with its technical assistance partners to coordinate their project roles with selected jurisdictions in Cohort 1 and looks forward to launching our partnership with the Cohort 2 jurisdictions. The Training & Technical Assistance (T&TA) provided includes a variety of methods, such as distance learning (e.g., webinars, conference calls, electronic exchange of materials and resources, professional mentoring, etc.) and on-site T&TA (led by RFK National Resource Center consultants).

We are excited about the selection of the Cohort 2 jurisdictions and look forward to our partnership and our shared goals of creating innovative, evidence-informed, and replicable methods for planning, implementation, sustainability, and performance measurement that support the positive transformation of probation and juvenile justice systems. If you wish to learn more about the Dennis M. Mondoro Probation and Juvenile Justice System Enhancement Project, please contact John A. Tuell, Executive Director (jtuell@rfkchildren.org).
